Recently I learned of the Church in the United States once again trying to reframe the Clergy Abuse Scandal and of course bishops are behind it. What is being done now you ask? I’m glad you did ask. The thing that seems to be to focus of the bishops is shifting focus away from the real issue, that claims of sexual misconduct by priests that are just being brought forth by the victims of that abuse never really happened… (And those of Jewish decent and African decent are not real people… Please say you remember those lies that were put forward as truth.) Hoping that weak minds will buy into this lie it is being put forth by the bishops. They should know better because the prince of lies is Satan. Could the so-called princes of the Church really be great Satans? Jesus warns us about shepherds who can cause us to lose our souls.
The focus now and always should be on the fact that when this scandal was still in the dark the bishops did nothing but desperately try to keep it a secret by covering up. Tell me where was Jesus’ teaching then? Where was the Church teaching then? Not WWJD, or What Would Jesus Do, but WDJD, What Did Jesus Do. He didn’t stand for a clergy, including bishops, teaching and more importantly living outside of God’s teaching. Remember Jesus’ run-ins with the Pharisees and Sadducees? Blind guides and blind fools…just like anyone trying to shift focus and blame back onto anyone or anything other than the bishops.
Here is another shocker; sexual abuse of the underaged is not the only abuse that some priests are guilty. And yet another surprise; bishops still will not do anything. How are we to heal wounds that we have inflicted if we will not even acknowledge them?
There is a fine line, sometimes not so fine, between authentic shepherding that sometimes calls for sternness, but still love, and arrogance in which there is an absence of love. The arrogance can kill the soul, just what Jesus told us to beware of in spiritual leaders.
Attempts by the bishops to shift focus on this scandal is arrogant and it kills souls. Here is another example of the Church’s apologies being vacuous.
