A priest friend of mine just finished watching the silent movie The Passion of Joan of Arc. After viewing it he texted me that the Church never changes. A saint was tortured and burned at the stake. Today rapists and molesters are protected.
It is just an example of evil infiltrating the Church from the time it was founded by Christ. Since it is an institution run by men we should not be surprised, shocked, disturbed that evil continues to seep into our beloved Church. Power is corrupting, ambition is blinding, when the two are combined we, the faithful, are the losers.
As for the so-called good old days and people longing for them…well…the good old days never existed. All we have is the here and now so our energies need to be expended on fighting the current corruption and evil while trying to advance spiritually ourselves. Luckey for us doing the former will help with the latter.
If the priests of dioceses and in orders would act rightly and challenge the evil and corruption among us then we would not have our current clergy sexual abuse crises. Evil would find another entry of course because humans are not perfect. But the ongoing crises we are facing just gets worse and worse by the hierarchy only giving lip service to their apologies and by their constant and aggressive fight against victims. Complain all you want about the lawyers involved, they are just creations of the Churches leaders reticence to fall on their sword.
We need to take our Church back from the clerical ambitious, the yes men who do nothing to stem the evil around the Church,
