What to do? I read that a man, a journalist, started a campagne called ‘It Get’s Better’ to help prevent homosexual and lesbian teenagers from killing themselves when they feel overwhelmed, bullied, persecuted. People send him video clips and he judges which ones to post encouraging kids not to kill themselves. Everyone should encourage kids not to kill themselves.
I bring this up because I tried to get parishioners to send letters to the bishop demanding action on his part to settle this clergy sexual abuse issue. It didn’t happen but some of the more ignorant, intolerant and demanding did find time to write him letters about me. I actually am relieved that they did not demand action on his part because they do not understand this issue any more than he does, as has been shown over and over again.
I do not have a clue how to get a campaign going on youtube but one is needed. The issue of sexual abuse across the board, not only by clergy, needs to be addressed. When it is kept a dirty little secret who besides the victim suffers? Secrecy is power to a molester. That feeling that it must be kept a secret is the same thing that causes shame in victims.
I have in mind some people who would be perfect for reviewing the videos that would be posted. The question is can they and would they want to do it? I’ll check it out.
