Religion/theology not just for services but for life

All’s quiet in the Diocese of Wilmington for the time being.

I’m having a lovely exchange on Facebook about Catholicism.  It should be true for all faiths that it isn’t just a one day a week thing but the beliefs and tenants of whatever theology you profess belief in should be incorporated into your very life.  There are a lot of people who either don’t believe that or do not do it.  Active & believing Hindu’s, Muslim’s, Buddhist’s, as well as true believers in other religions will  tell you that their theology and belief in that theology guide and shape their lives.

Priests who sexually abused children were not living or incorporating into their lives what is presented by the Catholic Church as beliefs.  The duality is incompatible with living life as a Catholic.    On an episode of ‘BONES’ there was a teacher who had an affair with an underaged student.  She admitted to that and followed the admission with, “I am a good teacher!”  the psychologist answered no you’re not.  He said this because she had an inappropriate relationship with a student.  Ergo priests who molested are not and were not good priests.  Harsh but true.

About follow1in3

I am a Roman Catholic priest ordained for the Diocese of Wilmington, DE who is also a victim of clergy sexual abuse. I am often angered by the insensitiviy and hostility of other clergy, the hierarchy and the so-called people-of-God. If clergy, bishops included, really and truly understood abuse, (any kind of abuse), I would not feel the need to blog on occasion. It is very frustraing.
