Saint Gregory the Great on harvest laborers

“…Look about you and see how full the world is of priests, yet in God’s harvest a laborer is rarely to be found; for although we have accepted the priestly office, we do not fulfill its demands…” (Saint Gregory the Great, born at Rome about 540)

I don’t think I can type any longer.  It was true then and it is true now.

Clergy sexual abuse is heinous on so many levels.  Priests, and I include myself, need to live the life that God has called us too with authenticity.  We all need to fulfill the demands of our call.  Bishops, especially, must stop ignoring the Holy Spirit and make sure that the abused are cared for.  Wounds heal but scars are left and sometimes even scars cause pain.

About follow1in3

I am a Roman Catholic priest ordained for the Diocese of Wilmington, DE who is also a victim of clergy sexual abuse. I am often angered by the insensitiviy and hostility of other clergy, the hierarchy and the so-called people-of-God. If clergy, bishops included, really and truly understood abuse, (any kind of abuse), I would not feel the need to blog on occasion. It is very frustraing.
