Are bishops even aware of how arrogant that sounds?

While praying the rosary, the sorrowful mysteries, during meditation on the crowning with thorns a thought, hopefully inspiration from the Holy Spirit, came to me.  Intellectually if not physically I have been bothered with a particular excruciating head ach surrounding the clergy sexual abuse issue.  ( Many excruciating head aches have been birthed by this issue.)

If I hear a bishop say one more time that settlements can’t be made because of the Churches Charitable works needing to continue I am going to… …well I don’t know but I can’t take much more.  Are bishops even aware of how arrogant that sounds?  Are they aware that the scope & onerous of the clergy sexual abuse scandal is on them?  That is the “charity” they, (bishops), should be most interested in contributing to.  The reason for that is that the fact that this is a Church based and Church caused scandal.

Some people, even some priests, do not see that clearly and ask if other causes aren’t as important.  Other charitable opportunities supported by the Church were not caused directly by the Church.  Hunger, homelessness even abortion were not caused by the Church.  The clergy sexual abuse scandal was caused by the hierarchy of the Church.  That is not saying that other charitable causes are not important but I am saying that the most important charity, (monetary as well as personal), is the abuse issue.  Money alone won’t help.  Money alone won’t buy happiness or put together the broken.  Healing must also be offered.

Are they ever going to understand the damage they have done?

About follow1in3

I am a Roman Catholic priest ordained for the Diocese of Wilmington, DE who is also a victim of clergy sexual abuse. I am often angered by the insensitiviy and hostility of other clergy, the hierarchy and the so-called people-of-God. If clergy, bishops included, really and truly understood abuse, (any kind of abuse), I would not feel the need to blog on occasion. It is very frustraing.
