God’s light

As all Christians know, or should know, the light of God is always shining on our lives and our actions.  There is truly no way to do anything in our lives secretly or hidden from God.  That is one of the reasons that it is so difficult to comprehend any and all scandals in our lives; be they political, religious, legal or any other thing that affects our how we live.  How is it then that people always try to cover up things that are potentially embarrassing scandals and in the process of secrecy and lies create even bigger scandals?  Remember the lies of Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, (just in my lifetime in the U.S.A.).

How can any religious denomination forget that the light of Christ will always expose the wrongs that have been done especially in his name?  Bad things have been done to Catholics the world over that cannot be undone.  They can’t be undone but steps can be taken toward healing.  It is the healing of those who have been victimized, by supposed men of God that needs to be urgently addressed.  Bravo to the Church for having measures put in place to prevent the future sexual abuse of those in her care, (I’m including both minors and non-minors because of the power that comes with being a cleric).

Something needs to be done with the purpose of healing victims, minors and non-minors, people who have come forward and people who have not.  Outreach and evangelization are our mandate.  We must honor that now for people who really need help and reconciliation.

About follow1in3

I am a Roman Catholic priest ordained for the Diocese of Wilmington, DE who is also a victim of clergy sexual abuse. I am often angered by the insensitiviy and hostility of other clergy, the hierarchy and the so-called people-of-God. If clergy, bishops included, really and truly understood abuse, (any kind of abuse), I would not feel the need to blog on occasion. It is very frustraing.
