Justice

“You cease to praise God only when you swerve from justice and what is pleasing to God” – Saint Augustine

Justice.  What is justice?  It is talked about in the realm of criminal prosecution.  It is talked about when urging others to aid the poor.  It boils down to righting a wrong.  Bringing the abused, the abused who have been wronged by people who were put in positions of authority to protect, care for, love them, is the duty of all the members of the Body of Christ.

The Church is sometimes affectionately refered to as, “Mother”.  What would civilized people say about a mother who failed to protect and defend her children.  Unfortunately you read about a lot of that behavior in the news.  When people discuss it casually they often refer to the offending mother as a monster.  The Roman Catholic Church IS NOT A MONSTER!!!  And the people, men, who control the purse strings need to stop acting like monsters and realize that they are not giving the Church the service demanded by Jesus Christ and the gospel of love.

Give up the damn money, sell what you have to sell, and if we need to start over then that is the just thing to do.  People are more important than possessions and/or money.  God remains the same.  Our theology remains the same.   Our faith remains the same.  Justice…and what is pleasing to God…is always the correct thing to do.

About follow1in3

I am a Roman Catholic priest ordained for the Diocese of Wilmington, DE who is also a victim of clergy sexual abuse. I am often angered by the insensitiviy and hostility of other clergy, the hierarchy and the so-called people-of-God. If clergy, bishops included, really and truly understood abuse, (any kind of abuse), I would not feel the need to blog on occasion. It is very frustraing.
