I have prayed a lot about all of this and have decided, (because I believe God is leading me), to keep pushing this issue via my Sunday homilies and in fact every chance I get. There are so many people who do not understand this issue. There are so many people who truly believe in their hearts that the people hurt by clergy sexual abuse are just out to get the Church. Or worse, that they are anti-Catholic. There are some people who are anti-Catholic, I won’t deny that, but the desire that is coming from inside the Church itself by some of her clergy and some members is NOT anti-Catholic and if fact is congruent with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
All of the jabbering about help without giving help is the antithesis of living the gospel. The hierarchy is not living up to gospel standards that they have promised to live. The good that is the salvation of souls is going unseen because money is blinding them. Maybe, and I hope that this is true, the embarrassment of all these revelations of sexual abuse by clergy and also lay people in the Church’s employ have something to do with the reticence we are all witnessing. Whatever the reason is it needs to stop…NOW…
