One thing that is said by Church officials is that money, because it always comes down to money, is needed for charitable contributions, for Catholic schools, etcetera…
Now let’s examine this. People who have fled the Church, hate God, the Church and anything connected to it and especially priests don’t warrant top-tier help from the hierarchy? If we look at this logically we see it was the way that the hierarchy handled/didn’t handle the problem of sexual abuse, both by clergy and by others in the Church’s employ, at the time(s) it was happening there wouldn’t be a need to reach out to them now…and that takes money. So the fact that the hierarchy itself is responsible for the loss of many of these souls isn’t it now their duty to rectify the error of their ways? Shouldn’t it be their responsibility to salvage these souls and if not bring them back to the faith at least lead them to a point where they don’t hate God. The actions of these men is what led some of the victims to hate God in the first place. That sin is unfathomable to me.
It is a monumental insult for clergy and their representitives to quantify money when it comes to thier fundemental duty to help the people that they themselves have harmed. If schools have to close then that is the price you pay, if parishes close then that is the price you pay. The salvation of souls, especially souls you drove out of the Church yourselves, should not even be up for debate. The hierarchy shold shut up and do what they need to do for the victims of clergy sexual abuse.
